The glossary contains terms and definitions that you may find in the Yandex Business Help and when using the service.

A

Action button

Online booking and appointment links in the profiles of companies with certain business categories. To learn how to add action buttons, see Online booking and appointments in the company card.

API

API (Application Programming Interface) is a set of instructions and standards that enable different applications to communicate with each other. For example, you can use the Yandex API to add an action button to your company profile. For more information, see Online booking and appointments in the company card.

Branch

One of the companies in the chain. For more information, see Features for chains.

Branch owner

A user who manages one or more chain branches.

Branch representative

A user the Branch owner has entrusted to manage data in Yandex Business.

Business category

Business category of the company that's displayed in the Yandex Business profile.

Business owner

The user who first confirmed the rights to the company profile in Yandex Business.

Business rating

A value from 1 to 5 that's calculated using scores and reviews left by Yandex users. For more information, see Business rating.

C

Chain

A combination of multiple businesses into a single group. If you have a chain, you can update information for multiple branches at the same time. You can also upload a single logo for the entire chain and add a price list for all branches in the region.

Clicking the active All branches in chain link in a branch profile in Yandex Maps shows all branches in the chain. For more information, see Features for chains.

Chain owner

The user who first confirmed the rights to the entire chain or was assigned the Chain Owner role.

Chain representative

A user the Chain Owner has entrusted to manage data in Yandex Business.

Company information

Information about the company that's displayed in the Yandex Business account. Company information is displayed in the company profile in Yandex Maps, for example:

  • Company name.
  • Address and location.
  • Business category.
  • Business hours.
  • Contact details.
Competitor

A company that conducts similar activities and belongs to the same or a similar business category as your company.

Competitors are searched for within a one-kilometer radius. If there isn't enough data, the radius automatically expands to five kilometers.

CSV file

A text format file designed to represent tabular data. Suitable for updating chain data. For more information, see How to update chain information.

D

Direct traffic

Clicks on your company profile as a result of a search by name, locality, address, and other attributes.

For example, the user searched for [orlyonok mayakovskaya cinema], found the Orlyonok cinema near Mayakovskaya metro station, and clicked its profile.

Discovery traffic

Clicks on the company profile after a search for other companies, products, and services. For example:

  • From search results by product, service, or business category.
  • From the Similar Places section.
  • From the recommendations.
Duplicate

Multiple company profiles that contain similar or identical information and describe the same company.

F

Features

A tab in the company profile describing details that may be important to your customers, such as accessibility, Wi-Fi, whether your business is child-friendly or not, parking, and payment options.

M

Materials to confirm the address

Additional materials we can request to confirm the address.

Moderation

Reviewing company materials prior to publication. For example, photos, videos, and price lists are moderated.

Moving

Changing the address within one locality. If a company is moving to another city or changing the company name or business category in addition to its address, such changes aren't considered moving. In this case, create a new profile.

N

News

Company publications displayed in the News tab in Yandex Maps and Yandex Search. The most recent publications are displayed first.

Notifications

The page in the Yandex Business account where you can subscribe to different messages from the service, including notifications about user changes in the company profile and statistics data.

O

Overview

Tab in the company profile in Yandex Maps. It displays basic information about the company: address, contact information, website, and location on the map.

P

Photos

All the images of your company or products. For more information, see Logo, photos, and videos.

POI

POI (point of interest) is a placemark in the form of the Yandex Business client's logo on certain scales in Yandex Maps without a search query.

POI helps you increase the number of targeted customers: users who take actions in the company profile in Yandex Maps. For example, they can build a route to a point, call, or view promotions.

Posts

Cards with text and photos that you can use to share information about your company. For example, you can create one to announce an exhibit, explain the terms and conditions for a promotion, announce new arrivals, or provide directions to your location. For more information, see Posts.

Pre-moderation

The option to accept or reject any changes made by users to your company profile in Yandex Maps. Pre-moderation is available in the Yandex Business account on the Applications → Awaiting confirmation page.

If you don't reject the changes in this section within three days, they are published automatically.

After processing, the changes are recorded in the Change history section with the Approved or Rejected status.

Price list
The section in the company profile with prices for products and services. You can add a price list in two ways:
  • As photos in About the business → Photos and videos.
  • As XLS/XLSX or YML in About the business → Products and services.
Products and services

The section in the Yandex Business account where you can add price lists with prices for products and services. For more information, see Price list.

Profile

The company's page in Yandex that contains all the information about the company. You can find a profile by name or business category in Yandex Search or in Yandex Maps. For example, the profile contains company data, photos, posts, and promotional materials.

Promo

A special offer in the company profile. If the user clicks a promo announcement, they'll see a full description of the terms and duration of the promo.

Promotional materials

The section in your account where you can download mockups with a QR code and copy the embed code with the company's rating. For more information, see Promotional materials.

R

Reference point

Yandex Maps or Yandex Navigator placemarks that help you navigate the city. To learn more about how to add a reference point, see Reference point.

Representative

A user who manages the company profile.

Representative (webmaster)

A user who manages the company's website specified in their profile. Assigned in Yandex Webmaster.

The role is assigned automatically in Yandex Business if the user has it in Yandex Webmaster.

Request form

Action button to collect user requests. You can set up a request form in the Request form → Settings section.

Reviews

User opinions about their experience with a particular business. Users post reviews in Yandex Maps and Yandex Search.

All user reviews are displayed in About the business → Reviews in the Yandex Business account. Business owners and representatives can manage reviews. For more information, see Manage reviews.

S

Search queries by business category

For information about search queries by business category, see Statistics.

Yandex Maps and Yandex Navigator search can associate user queries with business categories. For example, the [where to eat] search will be associated with the “Cafe” category. A single search query can be associated with multiple categories.

The system also locates the center of the user's map at the moment of the search query and counts searches for the category within a radius of one kilometer from your business. If there isn't enough data, the radius automatically expands to five kilometers.

Shop

The section in the company profile in Yandex Maps and Yandex Search that displays products and services.

Similar places

The section in the company profile where we display a selection of similar places nearby. It appears in your profile in Yandex Search and Yandex Maps.

Snippet

The section containing the address, phone number, and other company information from Yandex Business. For non-chain businesses, this section is added to the main page of the website in the search results.

The snippet is only shown for the page Yandex has associated with the business. As a rule, that's the page with a detailed description of the business and its location. For more information, see

Statistics

The section in the Yandex Business account where you can see ad traffic data and the number of clicks on the company profile in Yandex Maps, Yandex Search, and Yandex Services.

T

Toponym

The name of a geographic location (city, village, street) officially recorded in documents. For example, the Volga River, the city of Moscow.

U

User roles

The role determines which actions users can perform in the Yandex Business account.

You can set up user roles to manage information about the company, chain, or branches.

V

“Verified” icon

The  icon next to the company name. The icon is displayed for businesses whose representatives regularly update the company profile.

Video cover image

An image showing what the video is about. The user sees it before the video player starts. By default, videos are loaded with a cover image from a random frame. For more information, see Change the video cover image.

W

Webmaster Validator

Webmaster Validator is a tool to check that the structure of export XML files for Yandex affiliate programs complies with the XSD schema. It simplifies the debugging of export files and enables user data to reach affiliate program databases faster.

X

XML file

A text format file that represents data with certain identifiers and attributes. Works well for chains with more than 30 branches. For more information, see How to update chain information.

Y

Yandex Business

A service for entrepreneurs that helps businesses appear in Yandex Maps and Yandex Search and launch online advertising. The software is cloud-based, so no special installation is required.

Yandex ID

Single Yandex account. Use it to log in to all Yandex services.

Yandex Map Editor

Using this service, users draw and refine the map themselves.

Yandex Maps

A free service you can use to view a city map, find the place you need, and build a route to it.

Yandex Metrica

A free and powerful website analytics tool. To make advertising work for your business, connect the Yandex Metrics tag and set up goals for your website or a website from Yandex Business.

Yandex Navigator

A free app for drivers to build routes, find parking lots, pay fines, and buy fuel.

Yandex Realty

A service for real estate rental and sale ads.

Yandex Webmaster

A service that helps you understand how easily users can find your company's website. It offers tools for tracking and analyzing website page indexing, search ranking, and technical condition.

YML feed

The product catalog in Yandex Market Language format that enables Yandex Business to automatically load information from the user's website.
