Voice messages
Dictating messages is much faster than typing. But listening to voice messages may be inconvenient if the recipient is in a crowded or noisy place. Yandex Messenger can automatically recognize voice messages, so the recipient gets both audio and text.
Voice message restrictions
- Recognition is only available for messages in Russian that are no longer than 10 minutes.
- You can only send such messages in a one-on-one chat or a private group chat. Voice messages are not available in chats on Yandex services.
Voice messages are available:
- In the Yandex Messenger app for devices running on Android 7.0 and later.
- In the Yandex Messenger app for devices running on iOS 14.1 and later.
- In the web version of Yandex Messenger on your PC: in Yandex Browser, Google Chrome, Opera, and Mozilla Firefox.
Select a sound device
You can record sound using the built-in microphone or a connected headset. The app will automatically detect the audio input source.
- Click above the chat list.
- In the Calls section, click Microphone.
- Select a device.
Allow access to microphone
The first time you try to record a voice message, call somebody or accept an incoming call. The app will request access to the microphone. You can allow access immediately or later in the app settings.
- Open the device settings.
- Tap.
- Select Yandex Messenger in the list of apps.
- Tap Permissions.
- Activate the Microphone option.

Note. Mobile device manufacturers can change the Android interface. Below are instructions for Android without modifications.

In the system settings, make sure that Yandex Messenger application has access to the microphone.

Make sure the browser you use to open Yandex Messenger has access to the microphone.
Record, listen, send, delete a voice message
Open a private chat and tap and hold the icon to the right of the text input field. The message is now recording — please speak. Then:
- Release the microphone icon, and the message will be sent immediately.
- Hold the icon until you see the lock icon above it. Swipe from to : the recording will continue even if you remove your finger from the screen. Tap the icon to stop the recording.
Now you can:
- — Listen to the recording before you send it.
- — Choose not to send the message and delete it.
- — Send the message.
Open a private chat and click the icon to the right of the text input field. The message is now recording — please speak. Then:
- Click to send the message immediately.
- Click to stop recording.
- Click . The message will be sent immediately.
Now, you can:
- — Listen to the recording before you send it.
- — Choose not to send the message and delete it.
- — Send the message.
Questions and answers
- Make sure that your smartphone or computer is connected to the internet. For example, try opening the ya.com website. If you're offline, restart the router. If you're still offline, contact your internet provider.
- Log out of Yandex Messenger, and then log in again.
- Make sure that access to the microphone is allowed in your device's OS settings.
- Try changing the device for recording audio.
- If you use Yandex Messenger on a Windows computer, make sure that no other applications use the microphone and camera. If so, they may not be available for Yandex Messenger.
Why can't I send a voice message?
