This place literally breathes history. According to legend, Saint Nino (who brought Christianity to Iberia) huddled here in a blackberry bushwith a cross made of vines, received from the hands of the Virgin herself. A blackberry bush still grows in the same place, next to a stylized copy of the cross, which became a symbol of Christianity in Georgia (the original is located in the Zion Cathedral), Tsar Mirian III and Queen Nana, who declared Christianity the official religion of the country in 326, found their last refuge here. Now their sarcophagi are standing side by side. Many shrines are kept in the monastery: the incorruptible relics of St. Gabriel Urgebadze, the relics of the Assyrian fathers of St. Abibos of Nekres, St. Shio of Mgvim, part of the life-giving pillar, a copy of the miraculous icon of the Iveron The Mother of God.

Samtavro Monastery is a place where time freezes. There is a place in Mtskheta where you want to come back again and again. This is Samtavro, a cozy convent that stands slightly away from the main tourist trails, but it is here that the real Georgian soul is felt. Founded in the 4th century, it preserves the memory of the first Christian kings of Georgia, Mirian and Nana, whose relics rest in the main temple. The relics of St. Gabriel Urgebadze are also located here, which are visited by pilgrims from all over the country. Be sure to visit the small church of St. Nina - they say it stands on the very spot where the saint lived and preached. The silence, the ancient walls, the well-kept grounds and the almost complete absence of tourists are the perfect place to stop, exhale and feel like a part of this centuries-old history. 🤍 Important: when entering the temple, women should cover their heads, shoulders and knees should be covered. Admission is free.

Thank God we were able to venerate the relics of Father Gabriel) this is a great joy) the temple is open until 19:00, the queue is moving fast. There are a lot of beautiful old icons. A beautiful old place where you want to stay longer. There is a tap with water at the entrance, where you can get drinking water. If you are in Georgia, be sure to come here, where your soul rejoices. There is a large parking lot and an interesting area where you can take a fascinating walk.

Beautiful architecture, an old salted place. But inside there is no love for God or for people. Before my eyes, all the candles that had just been lit were extinguished and removed as soon as the person left the icon. All for the sake of profit. They serve Mammon here, not the Lord.

It's strange, of course, to evaluate such a holy place. It's priceless! The Samtavro Convent in Mtskheta (Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, St. Nino's Church, bell tower) is famous for serving as a tomb for the first rulers of Georgia, Tsar Mirian and his wife Nana. They adopted Christianity from Saint Nino and made it the state religion. The name of the temple literally translates as "royal territory". The monastery's Holy Transfiguration Church, founded in the 4th century, was repeatedly destroyed by earthquakes and rebuilt (most recently in the early 19th century). The Temple is especially warm and very beautiful. Alas, I only managed to take a photo of the candlestick (the nun stopped me with a stern voice). But if you Google it, you can see photos of more successful tourists and appreciate the beauty of the temple. The temple houses the relics of St. Gabriel, an elder known not only in Georgia but also in Russia.

Samtavro is a convent, one of the oldest in Georgia According to legend, it was built on the site of a blackberry grove where Saint Nina hid and prayed. The temple houses a fragment of the relics of St. Andrew the First-Called, the first Christian rulers of Georgia, King Miriana and Queen Nana, as well as the relics of St. Gabriel (Urgebadze), one of the most revered modern saints of Georgia.

Impressive! Not far from Tbilisi, it's easy to get there. We took a walk, it is also interesting to see the confluence of Aragva and Kura nearby. I felt Lermontov's lines from Mtsyri. Recently, there was an event on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary.

Unfortunately, not many people come here, limiting themselves to Svetitskhoveli and Jvari. But in vain. Samtavro is not inferior to the other two temples in its importance and beauty. Inside, the temple impresses with its architecture. There are also relics of Saint Gabriel. It is imperative to visit this holy place, imbibe grace and feel peace.

The Lord so guided us that we ended up in this amazing place - the Samtavro Monastery, a complex of the Samtavro—Transfiguration Church and the convent of St. Nina. In the temple there is a miraculous icon of the Iveron Mother of God, a miraculous icon of St. Nina, the relics of St. Gabriel of Samtauria and many more shrines!

The temple acts as the tomb of the first rulers of Georgia, the remains of King Mirian and his wife Nino are buried here. Many centuries ago, they converted to Christianity with the help of Saint Nina, who, according to legend, converted the entire Georgian people to the faith in 324, the name Samtavro translates as "royal territory". The common area includes the Transfiguration Cathedral, the bell towers of the Mongolian era, the Church of St. Nino. In the center of the city, the shrine is clearly visible at Svetitskhoveli. The history of the shrine dates back to the 4th century and is directly related to Saint Nina. The Samtavr monastery keeps many memories and objects related to the personality of the man who is now called Saint Gabriel of Samtavia, part of the life-giving table is located here, the relics of Saints Abibos of Nekres and Shio of Mgvim are kept, the miraculous icon of St. Nino, the miraculous icon of the Iverian Mother of God, you can also see part of the stone and the grave of St. Nino.

A must-visit in my opinion, preferably by car, of course. If we're lucky with the weather, like we are, the confluence of the rivers is clearly visible. Well, Lermontov's lines pop up in my head...where the mergers are noisy...hugging like two sisters...streams of Aragva and Kura

Samtavro Monastery, very blessed in it.Father Gabriel Urgebadze always answers my prayers. Every time I come to Mtskheta, I don't want to leave. I am sitting at the relics of Saint Gabriel Urgebadze , and I feel indescribable grace from the saint . This year I went to the day of the finding of the relics of St. Gabriel Urgebadze. And miracles happened every day. On this trip, I was presented with a large icon of St. Gabriel Urgebadze. The person who gave the icon makes them himself. This is a great mercy from Father Gabriel. In the photo, I'm with Father Gabriel's kekeley, nun Paraskeva.

Even if you are a Christian and traveling on your own, and not as part of tour groups, you will not be allowed here during the service. They are motivated by the fact that you are interfering with the parishioners. Yes, the service is in Georgian, but this is the first time I've seen such an attitude. Georgian churches strictly do not allow women in trousers or trousers, only in skirts and with their heads covered. Keep this in mind when visiting. But in general, in every temple there is a box with shawls and skirts in front of the entrance. Since this is a temple attached to a monastery, they are especially fierce in observing the rules. A place with a very powerful atmosphere, it feels salted and with a lot of history. If you really want to see everything with pleasure, ask the guides about the schedule of services and come outside of this time. And it's better with a guided tour.

It's a pity that you can't take pictures in the temple (categorically and generally, and not just with a flash), there are interesting murals in the dome drum. And there are no photos of murals in the brochure about the monastery in the souvenir shop.

The Monastery itself is beautiful! Georgia and the city of Mtskheta, thank you for your emotions. But I am very offended by the monastery shop!! I bought a keepsake ring with an alleged gold coating, deception, the finger turned blue, the coating oxidized. Now costume jewelry, even the most inexpensive, does not behave like that. Oh, I'm so sorry for you.

It is magnificent, beautiful, quite monumental, refined and well maintained. I consider this place a must-visit. We came from Yerevan by car, the road is quite comfortable by local standards, I don't remember how long to drive, but not for long. We examined everything in no more than an hour and went to see the next attraction.

It's an incredible place. Everyone who believes must go there. An atmosphere of grace. If you arrive early, you can attend the service. Georgian singing is a special art. But the main thing here is the grace that comes from the good Father Gabriel. It is a great joy to pray at his relics.

A salted place The atmosphere is favorable If they were allowed to venerate the relics for 5 minutes, but unfortunately they are not allowed because the flow of parishioners is large, many disabled and sick people come to venerate the relics of MAMA GABRIELE I bowed down 2 times when we were traveling to Tbilisi and when we were returning home from there to Russia You can feel some warmth coming from the relics of Elder Gabriel Urgebadze Is there a museum there The nun guide explained everything well in Russian and told me I ADVISE EVERYONE TO EAT BY CAR, DO NOT DRIVE PAST MTSKHETA. GO THERE AND VISIT SAMTAVRO MONASTERY BOW DOWN TO THE RELICS OF ELDER GABRIEL AND THEN DRIVE ON.

To describe the monasteries and temples in Georgia, one review is not enough, these are just gorgeous places, with a special nature, a special style (all buildings of 4-6 centuries), made of beautiful stones and an unusually beautiful sky. We went to Georgia in September to visit holy places, each place left its own special episode in life. As it turned out, Samtavro has the most pilgrims, because of our modern Saint Gabriel Urgebadze. By the grace of God, we have visited these holy places.

An active convent, the spiritual center of Georgia! It was in this monastery that the most famous Georgian saint in Russia, our contemporary, the Monk Gabriel of Samtavria (Urgebadze), asceticized, his holy relics are located in the Transfiguration Cathedral, a very majestic and ancient Temple. I highly recommend you to visit!

Samtavro Monastery in Mtskheta is one of those places where "prayer" and "energy" are felt incredibly strongly. It's really a very salty place in the true sense of the word.: Saint Nino: There is a blackberry orchard here, under which, according to legend, Saint Nino, the enlightener of Georgia, preached, as well as her grave. The very fact that such a great saint is here already charges the space with special grace. Saint Gabriel (Urgebadze): In recent decades, Samtavro has become a pilgrimage center thanks to the relics of St. Gabriel (Urgebadze). His life, his foolishness, his miracles and his love for God and people left an indelible mark. A huge number of people come here to ask for his prayerful help, and his grave, and now the shrine with its relics, are a source of incredible strength and comfort. Ancient history and continuous prayer: The monastery has a centuries-old history, monastic life has always flowed here, prayers were heard and services were performed. All this "accumulates" in the walls, the air, and the ground itself. As a result, Samtavro's energy is truly unique.: Peace and quiet: Even among the many pilgrims, there is often a deep sense of peace. The power of faith: You feel the presence of something very ancient and very alive at the same time. Hope and healing: Many people come here in pain, hoping for healing and comfort, and often receive it. It is a place where time seems to stop, and the soul comes into contact with eternity and grace. Samtavro is not just an architectural monument, it is a living spiritual center.
