An amazing museum. Magnificent , what doors alone are worth ! Made of colored glass . We didn't expect to see anything like this in Abkhazia. There are so many interesting exhibits and themed halls. I recommend it to both children and adults. We're from St. Petersburg, and we know a lot about museums. We were on an excursion. I would just like to draw the attention of the management and the staff . When we had a tour, the museum staff discussed their everyday issues very vigorously in the lobby. We even had to ask them to keep their voices down so that we could hear the guide. And as for the guide, you can teach them a little more, the tour is the most interesting, but listening to it at such a speed is simply not possible, and also trying to imagine and understand. As if the guide was in a mad hurry somewhere. And the last 2 halls about the 2nd World War and the Abkhazian war decided not to tell us at all. To sum up , the museum is 5+ Employees on 3.

No matter which city we come to, first of all we visit the museum to get acquainted with its history, both ancient and modern. To be honest, I didn't really expect anything grand from this museum, but I was very mistaken. Incredible exhibitions, 17 completely different halls. The museum itself has a very pleasant format, a modern interior, exhibits are originally displayed and decorated, signs and signs are written in an interesting, not boring "spider-museum" language like everywhere else. We really regret that we came an hour and a half before closing, we were so carried away that we didn't notice how that time flew by. I didn't even want to be distracted, so I just took out my phone once and took a couple of photos. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they suggested that we visit the museum the next day at no extra charge to view everything. Entrance is 400₽. The staff is above all praise, smiling, polite, at the exit the guard gave his wife his hand, shook it and thanked her for visiting! This gesture is in my heart ❤️❤️❤

A gorgeous museum that, as if by the hand, takes you into the history of this small, proud country. There were ups and downs and scary moments. I advise you to visit, there are a lot of interesting things there.

A wonderful museum, a good exposition for exploring the history and culture of the Abkhazian region. There are exhibits telling not only about the history of the Caucasus, but also about the history of Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, Byzantium, as well as about the fate of Abkhazia in Modern Times. The museum is one of the most interesting sights of Sukhumi, and I definitely recommend a visit. 👍👍👍

The museum occupies 2 modest floors. He begins his narrative with archaeological excavations and ends with the military history of Abkhazia in the 20th century. In general, it is very interesting. It took about 1:20 minutes to inspect the entire museum. On the downside: there is no souvenir shop. I would like to get acquainted with souvenirs and second-hand books in this country. But, alas, no such organizations have been found in this country. Even in the state museum.

The museum is small, but it includes the 40 thousand-year history of Abkhazia. The guide lovingly told about the ancient Abkhazian tribes, told about the ancient Greeks, Khazars, Turks, women warriors and much more. About the war with Georgia... The exposition was badly damaged after being looted during the war, but the staff managed to save a lot. It's worth visiting this museum.

It was very informative. Not every museum has as many exhibits and information about the country as here. Money was not spent in vain, the children are delighted, the museum is huge, the local museum staff provided information "firsthand". Informative, recommendations from the whole family.

We were on 04/07/26.. We were satisfied with the visit. We arrived at 11:00, there were 7 of us, a ticket of 400rubles per person, an excursion of 10 people. We added up to 4,000rubles for tickets, and after 1 minute we already had a guide. We were fully guided through all the halls, the tour lasted about 1.5 hours, everything was interesting, and we received answers to all our numerous questions. There were few visitors, and they were practically the only ones in the museum.

The staff of the Svetlograd Museum of Local Lore visited the museum in Sukhum. We had a lot of fun! All the halls are thought out and equipped with love and knowledge. The hall dedicated to the war made a heavy impression. The museum staff is polite and courteous! Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

I liked the museum. Good exposures. Even despite the looting during the war. The instructor told me a lot. We went through all the halls. It took at least 1.5 hours. It affects different aspects, from the origin of Abkhazia, flora, fauna, and geology. I recommend you to visit. The cost is 200 rubles. You can't pay with a card.

I came to the museum and wanted to go on a guided tour. But they said that most likely there would be no tour today. There were five people sitting in the lobby, presumably three of them were tour guides. They said that in order for the tour to take place, a group of 10 people is needed, and if I want to go on the tour alone, I need to pay 10 entrance tickets, that is, 4,000 rubles. The rules are the same in the neighboring botanical garden, but at least they recruit such a group there. They tell everyone: wait a bit, now we will have a tour. Apparently, it's easier for the guides in this museum to sit and not conduct a tour than to recruit a group and conduct this tour, so they tell everyone that there will be no tour.

The museum may not be bad, but the staff is.... It seems like you're just preventing them from having polite conversations in the cozy chairs at the cash register. We arrived on a rainy day, it wasn't even 13 o'clock yet. We ask if it is possible to take a guided tour? Well, you can join the one that is already underway (in fact, it was already ending, we joined and looked at only two halls with a guide). We ask, how long to wait for the next one? - there will be no more excursions for today. Definitely not going to happen at all. No, well, maybe it will, but if a group of at least 10 people gathers, individual excursions are not provided (we did not ask). And all this in such a tone that you want to turn around and leave. Hurtful. Moreover, after 15-20 minutes they were already leading a new group with a guide, we could wait. I really wanted to learn more about the culture and history of Abkhazia.

The museum itself is not bad, those who are interested in history will like it. It is small, but capacious. But the museum staff, that's something! They chatted so loudly at the entrance, it was audible on the second floor, then they had a fight with a visitor. They started kicking us out at 17:00, although the opening hours were up to 18:00, the argument was that they worked longer yesterday. I had to leave in a toga without seeing the exhibition.

A cozy house. The smell of the museum. There are many exhibits. The scarecrows are beautiful. The staff are not sociable. The questions are not answered willingly and in such a way that you don't want to ask them anymore. Payment is in cash only. We were lucky. An employee was allowed to transfer money to the card.

We were at the museum on 11/28/2024. I recommend it, even if you came to Sukhumi for half a day, like us. BUT we must take into account that the lights are turned off at certain hours - as it happened in our country (we did not know) We didn't even have an hour to explore the museum! Unfortunately, there is not always a guide in winter. I would have a few questions for him. For example, there is no information about serious events around 1978-79. But this did not spoil the impression of the museum, cultural services, exhibitions and the interior / exterior decoration of the building. The ticket price is much more affordable than to an unkempt botanical garden. There are no discounts for pensioners anywhere - this is a minus

I like to visit local history museums, to learn more about the area. The museum is not big, everything is in Russian. They did not take a guide, and they did not offer it to us. We just ran through the 2nd floor. The Abkhazians were interested and liked the stuffed animals and birds. Admission is 200 rubles per person.

You will be able to get acquainted with the customs of the people. Entrance is paid, 200 rubles. We were lucky to get on the tour. The guide is Glad, this is a person who really loves his job. Her stories about everyday life and traditions of Abkhazia help tourists to learn a lot of interesting things.

A really good museum with valuable exhibits. It includes an ethnographic section, a section with paleontology, the history of antiquity and the Middle Ages, modern history and culture. I advise you to definitely go, some of the above will definitely interest you. The descriptions are presented in the Abkhaz and Russian languages. What I didn't like was the very loud conversations of the women on the ground floor, which could be heard from other halls on the first floor. The entrance fee is 400 rubles (cash/transfer)

It's a great museum. The stands dedicated to the war were especially touched. There are many stuffed birds and animals that live (previously lived) on the territory of Abkhazia. Also fish. Two floors, you can walk for several hours slowly, learning something new. The price for May 2025 is 200₽ It works until about 17.00

Very interesting! Especially for those who want to get a general understanding of the country and its culture from the very beginning. It's more interesting with a guide, but the tour is quite fast, although it lasts about an hour. The signs on the ground floor are quite exhaustive, on the second floor I already want more explanations in some halls.

The museum is nice, but the staff is terrible. During the tour, the caretakers talked to each other in full voice, which is why the guide could not be heard. The second floor was just briefly passed, except for the hall with the last war. But they stayed for a very long time on the photo of the mercenary Basayev, which is missing....

It is a wonderful place to learn about Abkhazia from not the most standard sources. A nice and well-maintained museum, but don't expect interactive metropolitan stuff. And the attention of the guides. They are simply not there. I went in, bought a ticket and walk freely, watch and read. And if you also got in on Saturday afternoon, then they can let you in first, and then after half an hour suddenly announce that it's a shortened day and everyone needs to leave early. Therefore, take a quick look and goodbye.

Considering the possibilities of the country, it is a minimalistic but interesting place. The museum itself is very pretty both externally and internally, and if you are lucky with a guide, you can learn a lot about the customs, culture, traditions and history of the country. Also in the museum you can meet a large number of Abkhazian intellectuals (museum workers) - who are very different from the population in other regions of the country.

The impressions of the museum are twofold, on the one hand, the exhibits themselves are not bad, but here is the presentation... Many are not signed, it is difficult to understand where they are. The museum staff is not interested, they do not conduct excursions, there are practically none in the halls. It seems that they are not interested in the museum. There is something to compare it with, there were in the museums of Kazan and Samara, heaven and earth.

A good place to get acquainted with the nature of Abkhazia, with minerals, the history of the country, the painful independence, you can read and see a lot. The museum is five, the staff is two! The keeper of the halls followed us, turned off the lights in the past halls, mumbled to herself how she hates the second floor, moreover, almost an hour before closing, like we prevented her from leaving earlier, you can't treat visitors like that! And, reading the reviews, I agree, many of the exhibits are not signed.

The museum is gorgeous. There are a lot of exhibits. Everything is kept at a high level. It is possible to trace the history of Abkhazia from ancient times to the present day. I couldn't put five because of the guide's bias towards the Soviet period. After all, it was at that time that Abkhazia reached the maximum level of development and comfort.

According to the expositions, the museum is quite rich, I liked the sarcophagus similar to the Egyptian one, the marble slab with a plot pattern of Greek execution, in general, the Mediterranean exhibits are interesting. There are halls about the recent war, and this, of course, is difficult, but it is impossible to tear yourself away and not look - they are decorated with soul and as informative as possible. The caretakers, who usually monitor the silence, gather in groups and talk continuously. It was in all the museums of Abkhazia, it is apparently an ineradicable tradition. I even got used to it already, but in the military hall.. These gossip-style conversations were very stressful.. They themselves seem to be calling for disrespect, such ticks, they would have moved to another hall, with canned fish or something... By the way, the fish collection is interesting, I haven't seen it anywhere else) The museum is worth a visit))
