The resort town of Tskaltubo shone in the last century with palaces, sanatoriums, parks, gardens, and healing mineral springs. In Soviet times, 19 luxurious and majestic sanatoriums were built in it, which were mainly subordinated to branch Ministries, which built their sanatoriums on a grand scale, like palaces. I visited Tskaltubo for the third time (the first time was in the mid-1980s, not for treatment, but just for an excursion, then there were direct trains from Moscow. The second time was in 2010, the sanatoriums were no longer working, and refugees lived in them). We love traveling to unusual and abandoned places, and now we have come to this abandoned paradise from Kutaisi for a tour of the "abandoned buildings". The start of her posh Medea Sanatorium, also known as the Centrosoyuz Sanatorium, with its impressive colonnade, courtyard, sculptures and fountains. This sanatorium, built in the 1950s in the Stalinist Empire style, was the main recreation area of the Soviet nomenclature. Currently, this architectural monument of a bygone era has not yet found its owner and has fallen into disrepair. But the remnants of former luxury (mosaic floors, moldings) have been preserved and can be seen up close by wandering through the corridors and floors. The atmosphere of "decadence" attracts like a magnet: empty corridors, peeling paint, rusty stairs without railings (you need to walk with caution), former treatment rooms — it seems to preserve traces of the past, admires with its beauty and uniqueness. And yet, unlike, for example, a museum, on such an excursion, you can touch everything, touch everyone! In such places, you feel a real delight that you will not get in other tourist places. And finally, and this was important for us, there are still no crowds of tourists at such sites — you can be alone with the masterpiece without loud noises and constant noise, as much as you want. How long will it last? After all, this area of tourism is becoming more and more popular.

Climbing the grand staircase of the most atmospheric abandoned palace in Tskaltubo, you look at its massive colonnade and graceful arches and feel here the embodiment of the Stalinist Empire style and former greatness, and the remnants of bygone luxury are inexorably swallowed up by nature. Atmospheric photos against the backdrop of the overgrown greenery of the Soviet post-apocalypse are provided. They write about him that The name is given in honor of the Colchian princess Medea from the myth of the Argonauts, which adds a mystical aura to the place. It was built in 1954-1962 (architects A. Inskirveli and T. Potskhishvili) in the Stalinist Baroque/Empire style. After the war in Abkhazia, the building was inhabited by refugees who used parquet and wooden panels for heating (there were legends that even captured German pianos were used for firewood). In 2021-2023, the sanatorium was sold to investors (presumably to an Egyptian businessman) with the condition of restoration, but large-scale work has not yet begun.

The Centrosoyuz Sanatorium in Tskaltubo is truly one of the most atmospheric and photogenic places in Georgia. It is called the "frozen in time" Soviet palace. The architecture there is amazing: the Stalinist Empire style, huge columns, stucco and those famous stairs, which are now half absorbed by nature.
