Military burial ( 3987) Molodusha village ; Rechitskitskiy district ; Gomel region; Republic of Belarus. I am the youngest daughter of Maria Filippovna Gerus, a teacher. And I remember this tragedy very well. My 5th grade class was also at that clean-up party, as there was another mass grave across the street. We were separated: some of the children were digging holes near the monument fence to plant trees, which was what the 4th grade was doing, and some of the students, including me, were digging trees in the nearest forest to bring them to planting. I was in a good mood, and together with my friend Anya, we sang songs. And at that moment, they heard a strong explosion, but they didn't pay much attention. It was only when we came out of the woods that we saw a huge column of smoke above the place where the monument was and where my mother and class were. There was a highway nearby, and you could see cars and a regular bus stopping there, and people ran out and rushed towards the monument. And I dropped everything and ran there. I've remembered that picture for the rest of my life. One of the adults took me away, and I only came to my senses when I was being taken by cart through the village. This day has changed my life. It all happened very quickly, the children were digging holes, and my mother was cleaning the flower garden behind the monument fence. As those who were nearby later told, the children dug out an anti–tank mine – it looked like a plate with a lid - and shouted: "Treasure, a plate of gold!". Mom reacted immediately, screamed: "Don't touch it!" The children all quickly surrounded the place, there were 20 of them. The gate in the fence on one side, the children on the other side, mom quickly ran to them. She ran up, grabbed Tom's handkerchief, and pulled on it, but it was too late. One of the students hit a mine with a shovel, and everything happened instantly. 13 schoolchildren died on the spot. Toma survived, but lost an eye and fingers on her hand, and her mother was thrown over the fence into the same flower garden that she had cleaned before. She had severe wounds to her temple and stomach. Someone leaned over to her, and she whispered: "Tomka" is my name, she knew I was around, and she died right away. 117 liberator soldiers who gave their lives for our motherland are also buried here .
