A very beautiful place! This temple is 200 years old, and also offers a view of the river, which is called the two sisters due to the fact that two rivers are combined into one river

It is a very spiritual and picturesque place. The sanctity of the place is felt from the first seconds. The architecture and history of the temple are very interesting.

In April 2024, an excellent asphalt road leads to the temple. The temple itself looks fascinating from below. I don't see any point in going there on foot, just for the sake of the view of the confluence of Kura and Aragvi.

What is attractive about this place: it offers a picturesque view from a height of Mtskheta and the confluence of the Aragva and Kura rivers, and the border is clearly traced, where the clear waters of Aragva mix with the turbid waters of the Kura. The monastery itself, as expected, does not stand out in any special way. It is small (even rather small), active and there is some kind of miraculous icon known in Georgia that cures all diseases, improves the acid-base balance and gets rid of mortgages. But, I'm more inclined to think that kissing her will get herpes or intestinal disorder sooner. A special attraction of this place is the paid toilet and parking. Moreover, the toilet is in such terrible condition that, on the contrary, they should rather pay extra for visiting it. However, despite the fact that 25 tetris were written on it, no one demanded money from us. The same cannot be said about parking. As soon as we were about to leave, a brisk Georgian in a yellow vest with reflectors jumped up to us, informing us that parking is paid here. To our reasonable objections that it is not written anywhere, and in general, where he used to be, he did not react in any way. In order not to come into conflict, we said that there is no notification of paid parking anywhere, and we have all the money on the card, so - sorry, genatsvale! As we later learned, such figures are found everywhere in Georgia. Often, they really help with parking: they show a good place, direct. You can give them 1-2 GEL for this. But all this is done informally and the payment remains at the discretion of the driver. In Jvari, a friend simply declares that parking is paid, although it is not, it does not help in any way (and this help is not needed there - there are plenty of places) and simply, in fact, begs for money, misleading naive tourists.

🏞️ Jvari (from Georgian - cross) is a monastery and temple of the first half of the 7th century, located on the top of a mountain at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi near Mtskheta - where, according to historical sources, the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina erected a cross. By 545, a small temple was already standing on the "cross" mountain, now it is in ruins. A larger church, consecrated in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, was built in the late VI - early VII century. Erected on top of a rocky massif, the church serves as its organic completion and the center of the entire surrounding landscape. The unity with the landscape is emphasized by the fact that the monastery itself correlates with the size of the rock. 📝 Jvari, along with the neighboring Zedazensky Monastery, is considered the setting of M.Y. Lermontov's poem "Mtsyri". The church has small viewing platforms with magnificent views of Mtskheta and the confluence of two rivers.

A wonderful place to meet the sunset and enjoy the view of the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi. The road goes in a serpentine way back and forth, from the main highway for ten minutes, but you will definitely not regret it!

This is a place of worship in Georgia, the church is popularly called "Jvari". It was about her that Lermontov wrote in the poem "Mtsyri": "A few years ago, There was a monastery where, merging, they make noise, Embracing like two sisters, Streams of Aragva and Kura. Because of the mountain, a pedestrian can still see the Pillars of the collapsed gate, And the towers, and the church vault ..."The temple was built on the place where Saint Nino in the 4th century put her cross - two vines tied with her hair.
