Ananuri Fortress is in a fantastic location, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. I really liked that visitors are allowed to enter the tower and climb up—it adds to the adventure and lets you fully experience the historical beauty of the place!

Ananuri Fortress is a historical monument, an architectural masterpiece and one of the tourist "business cards" of Georgia. 🇬🇪 The fortress is located on the shore of the Zhinvali reservoir. Convenient location - located on The Georgian Military Road. Parking is paid. There is a toilet and souvenir shops.

Ananuri Fortress is a stunning historical place located in Georgia. She impressed me with her power and greatness. Majestic walls, ancient towers and unique architectural elements create an atmosphere of the past. The views of the surrounding mountains and the Aragvi River are simply mesmerizing. The Ananuri Fortress is really worth a visit for anyone interested in history and architecture.

A cool place with a very ancient history! It is located on the shore of the reservoir. The view from the fortress wall is simply incredible! We stopped at the fortress on the way to Kazbek. We were in October, the water level dropped and the bridge of the sixth century opened to us, in summer the platinum is closed and it is not visible. We didn't have much free time, but if you were in your car, then there are well-equipped places on the beach for recreation and active games with children. Plenty of room for gorgeous photos)

The fortress is located far from the city, you need to order a car, it's worth it) On the way to the fortress, we swam in the Aragvi River on a beautiful beach)) Ananuri served as the main stronghold for the rulers of this region - beautiful views of the river, the rich history of the fortress, I recommend visiting with a guide!!)

It's a very beautiful place. It was in September, and the bridge, of which only the skeletons visible to the eye remained, was flooded. As the guide told us, in the spring in April or early May, cars drove along it and will continue to drive. And this reservoir is almost dry in spring.I'll have to come back in the spring. And so along the Georgian military road, it's not a bad pass to rest, have a snack, or go from Vladikavkaz, stop for rest.Beautiful views. There is a boat station below, you can rent a boat, they also say you can swim there.

Imagine a harsh medieval fortress, pressed close to the turquoise surface of a huge lake. It's Ananuri! One of the most picturesque and atmospheric places in all of Georgia. Ancient walls, towers and temples that preserve centuries of history, and right at their foot is the incredible beauty of the Zhinvali reservoir. The color of the water is simply unreal — turquoise, emerald, and it is constantly changing depending on the light! Make sure to climb the highest tower. The view from there is absolutely epic: the fortress is in the palm of your hand, and around there is an endless expanse of water framed by majestic mountains. This is one of the most picturesque places in Georgia.

An interesting place, as they said, the temple is a UNESCO heritage site. Wander around the fortress, climb to the top of the tower, visit the church itself. I recommend a visit, especially since it is located on the way to Kazbegi.

Ananuri is not just a fortress, it is a place where you can feel the breath of centuries. High in the mountains, among the green slopes, like a forgotten page of ancient Georgia, frozen in time. Types? They take your breath away. Mountains, gorges, winding trails — it's like looking at Georgia through the eyes of an eagle. Stone walls, towers, surviving arches — all this tells a story without words. It is especially impressive how the fortress has literally grown into the rock — as if nature and man have agreed to live here together. There are few tourists — there is a sense of solitude and real travel, and not a "check-in" for social networks. The photos are epic, but the main thing is the impressions that remain inside. Silence, wind, sun on the rocks… It heals. Bottom line: Ananuri is not just a "plus sign on the list." It's an emotion. This is Georgia in its most honest, wild and majestic form. I really liked it.

At the sight of the magnificently clear blue lake, the thought "Sevan??" pops up, but no, this is no less beautiful Zhinvali reservoir. And next to it is the Ananuri memorial fortress. A spontaneous place that wasn't part of our plans. but who are we to miss such beauty?

I've been coming here for the 3rd year already. Beautiful weather. The beautiful surface of the reservoir has a greenish tinge. You can go boating. There are slides/swings for children. There are many houses with benches for relaxing with family and friends. A historically and ethnically famous place filled with events, a place of spiritual growth. I always love being here.

An ancient fortress! The most beautiful temple! The whole structure stands on the shore of a vast expanse of water and is surrounded by mountains. It is a very majestic and picturesque place. You can join the story and buy up, and take a ride on a boat, a sap and other water things)). To spend a day like this is a whole vacation!

It's not easy to get there, but it's worth it. The minibus runs from Didube bus station (Tbilisi) back to catch a ride. It is better in sunny weather, then the reservoir reflects the blue color. The fortress itself is small. You can walk on the walls.

This fortress has an interesting history. And the nearby temple. It is good that the Georgian government allocates money for the preservation and restoration of architectural monuments. There is a mini market near the fortress. We bought a warm big scarf there, a fluffy national sheepskin hat, and souvenirs. Highly recommend it!

Ananuri Fortress is one of the most famous and well—preserved monuments of Georgian fortification architecture. It is located on the Georgian Military Road, 70 km from Tbilisi, at the confluence of the Vedzathevi and Aragvi rivers, on the shore of the Zhinvali reservoir. The fortress served as the northern outpost of the defense of Transcaucasia and the main stronghold for the Aragva Eristavs, the rulers of this region.  The fortress originated in the XVI century (according to some sources, possibly earlier). There are preserved buildings on the territory of the citadel: A pyramid-roofed tower that existed before the fortress was built.  The Gvtaeb tomb Temple (XVI–XVII centuries) is a small Church of the Savior, inside of which there is a tombstone in the form of a canopy with an inscription in memory of an unknown woman who lost her husband and son.  Assumption Church (1689) — a two-story cross-domed temple with two supporting columns. The facades are decorated with delicate carvings with motifs of grapes, crosses and arabesques. Frescoes dedicated to the 13 Syrian fathers and scenes of the Last Judgment have been preserved inside.  The one–nave Mkurnali church (XVI-XVII centuries) made of rubble stone with a bell tower has been preserved on the territory of the lower fortification.  There are also several towers in the complex: Gorskaya, Kruglaya, Sheupovari (square) and the oldest one inside the castle (dating back to the 13th century). The square tower has preserved stairs that can be used to climb up.

A beautiful, picturesque place. If you travel by car, you will never pass by. It is located on the Georgian Military Road and the Zhinvali reservoir. You can climb the tower, walk along the walls of the fortress, take a bunch of cool photos. When the reservoir is full-flowing, turquoise water will be added to the species. There is a spontaneous market nearby, it does not decorate the place, but you can buy souvenirs. Admission is free, but there is a paid toilet and parking.

The fortress is magnificent, of course. I visited her 2 times, once at 8.30, the other at 11.00. This is heaven and earth. The number of tourists in the second case is such that it is no longer an inspection, but some kind of suffering and pushing. Keep this in mind if you plan to enter it. You can park for free on the side of the road opposite the fortress.

It's a very pleasant place. The fortress itself is well preserved and inspires respect. However, in some places it's a little scary to walk on the tower, either there are not enough perrils, or the floor does not inspire confidence. But it even adds to the drive. There is a large recreational area under the fortress on the shore of the reservoir. I think it's great to have a rest in the summer.
