The church can be called both long-awaited and long-suffering. Its construction has been postponed several times. The first attempt was made at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was possible to complete the construction only by 2013. The temple has one tower and is asymmetrical. Bullet marks from the First World War can be seen on the walls. On the southern exterior, you can see the fresco "carrying the cross" - they say in Soviet times they tried to paint it over several times, but it stubbornly showed through the paint, after which it was simply boarded up with a sheet of tin. In the altar of the church there is an icon of the Mother of God of Mercy (Ostrobramskaya), which was saved from destruction when the church was closed and used as a warehouse during the Soviet era. They also say that the acoustics here are amazing and rare.

My geographical discovery is in November. It is a very beautiful church, which I did not expect to see here at all. I was driving through the city on my way home and happened to see first the tower and then the entire building. And I decided that I want to watch Vileyka now. The church is beautiful and well maintained, but it was not possible to get inside. I really liked the color of the stone. I recommend that all visitors to the city take a walk here.

The golden rule is that the more beautiful a church in Belarus is from the outside, the more boring it will be inside. But still, if you're passing through Vileika, you should stop by. Opposite there is a park with a cool cafe. And the church is visible from the hotel (although I do not recommend it)

The Holy Cross Church, which was built in 1906-1913, stands on the central square of Vileika. It was built by architect August Klein in a neo-Romanesque style with Gothic features. For the first time, the temple was damaged literally immediately after construction: it was shelled during the First World War. But in the 1920s, when Vileika was part of Poland, the church was thoroughly restored. The shrine was closed after the Second World War. And if at first there was a warehouse there, then the fate of the church turned out to be more successful than that of many other churches in Belarus. The Nikodim Silivanovich House of Arts was built in the building, thanks to which the church did not fall into disrepair. In the 1990s, the church was returned to the Catholics and soon restored again. The temple is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus.
