Charles Bridge is probably the most famous place in Prague, and it really holds the bar. It was built back in the fourteenth century, and this hulk is still standing strong, in no hurry to fall apart. I walk across the bridge early in the morning, while there are still few tourists, and here the real buzz begins. Thirty statues of saints stand on both sides, each with its own story, some have already darkened with time, but this only makes them look more impressive. One of the figures, they say, if you rub it, you will return to Prague again. I rubbed it, of course, which makes me worse than others. To be honest, it's a different story here during the day - there are so many people that you have to literally walk sideways, squeezing between artists, musicians and crowds with cameras. The musicians play well, someone draws portraits, the atmosphere is lively, but there are zero tenths of personal space here. The views from the bridge to the Vltava River and Prague Castle on both sides are a separate conversation, that's exactly why it's worth coming at least once, preferably twice: once in the morning for silence, the second in the evening for sunset and illumination. On the downside, crowds are a major headache, especially during the season. Well, the prices in the cafes right by the bridge are specifically inflated, it's better to go to a couple of streets and eat there normally. In general, this is a place that you cannot pass by if you are in Prague. Just calculate the time of the visit wisely - and then you will get only pleasure without jostling.

Charles Bridge was familiar to me, only from the location of the shooting and the events of Spider-Man. Thus, the Charles Bridge became the only one in the world that used stones, eggs, milk, cheese, cottage cheese and wine for its construction. The Charles Bridge continues to amaze to this day. Researchers have discovered a new mystery: when scuba divers checked the base of the bridge underwater, they found a new layer of compressed moss between gravel and millstones. This moss does not grow underwater, so it was brought from the forests. Perhaps the moss was laid there to evenly distribute the weight of the bridge or just to fill the cracks. Or maybe he was left here for magical reasons. The original appearance of the bridge was preserved until 1648, when the Swedes came to Prague. The bridge was part of the city's defensive line and was partially destroyed during the war. Another terrible destruction occurred in 1890 during a flood that deeply affected the hearts of Prague residents. The repair of the bridge was undertaken by craftsmen from Budapest, although the Czechs were outraged that foreigners decided to restore their bridge. But in the end, the bridge was soon restored. In 1966-75, it underwent major repairs.

And your journey through Prague's "Gardens of Semiramis" will begin from top to bottom: Hradcany, St. Vitus Cathedral and St. George's Basilica, Malostranskaya Square, Voyanova and Waldstein Gardens, Charles Bridge with Marina's favorite knight - Brunzvik "knight guarding the river". Those who watched "Three X's" with Diesel will remember how he sat on the icebreaker of the bridge and muttered "Bora Bora". Then to the Old Town Square with the famous clock... and then with all stops. By the way, the city is beautiful in winter too! A little bit about politics. I've been to Prague countless times since '68. My mother's sister lives here. In Soviet times, they were a family of teachers and professors who lived 100 m from the Charles Bridge (a huge apartment, what can I say the staff appreciated ...). Restitution came and the apartment was seized, giving out a small two-bedroom apartment in a residential area... ("No need for a violinist"). It is necessary to go, but I recommend going down under the bridge later-local life is much more interesting there, and you will discover a lot of interesting things! I was on a tour in some dungeons of the Czech Castle-so there were original sculptures from the Charles Bridge. It turns out that the originals were removed for restoration (2017), and they began to collapse from time and weather, and there are copies on the bridge (not all, but most). Like that. In the non-summer season (spring and autumn are very cold, I'm not even talking about winter) it's very cold and windy on the bridge (blows away) - dress warmly, but there are fewer people. You can't get through at Christmas, and there are plenty of tourists in the summer. There are bridge structures that are much more impressive. The Charles Bridge is rather an artificially far-fetched monument in an old part of Europe that is constantly being patched up. In Nizhny Novgorod, the bridges are no worse, in Moscow even better, they will be studded with Lenin monuments and tourism will be for you.
