Passwordless login

You can log in to your Yandex account with a QR code using the Yandex app or set up fingerprint or face recognition login on your device.

Log in with a QR code

  1. Open any Yandex service.
  2. Click Log in (this button is usually in the top-right corner of the page).
  3. Select an account to log in and click QR code.
  4. Open the Yandex app.
  5. In the search bar, click .
  6. Point your device's camera at the QR code displayed in your browser.

Warning

Logging in via QR code is enabled by default in Yandex apps. You can manage the option on the Security tab in the Login method section. The One-time password and Password + one-time password login methods have instructions for logging in via QR code.

Log in with face or fingerprint recognition

You can set up this login method on any device that supports face or fingerprint recognition: laptop, phone, or tablet. Supported systems and browsers:

  • Mobile devices: Android version 9 and later (with Google Play), iOS version 16 and later.
  • PC: Yandex Browser, Google Chrome, and Safari version 16 and later, Firefox version 114 and later.

Enable login method

  1. Go to the Security tab.

  2. In Login method, click Face or fingerprint authentication.

  3. Select Set up on device.

When setting up a device, you add the Yandex access key for a particular browser. If you use multiple browsers, set up login for each of them.

You can link up to 10 access keys to one account. If you got a new device, you can delete the key for one of your previous devices.

  4. Follow the instructions on your device screen.

After you set up authentication, Yandex will receive the confirmation that it's you from your device.

Disable login method

If you want to disable this login method, delete the key in your Yandex ID account and your device settings:

  1. Go to the Security tab.
  2. Go to Face or fingerprint authentication.
  3. Choose a device from the list.
  4. In the window that opens, click Disable quick login.
  5. Confirm the action by clicking Disable.
  6. Delete the key in your device settings following the instructions from the manufacturer.
Face or fingerprint recognition login method

This is an alternative way to log in without entering a password or verification code. When you log in, the system verifies that the key (or the authenticator) was issued for the particular website. The response of one particular authenticator will vary for different websites, which makes it impossible to intercept and reproduce the authentication request. The authentication procedure uses secure cryptographic protocols. Passwordless login eliminates the risk that your password is lost or stolen.

  1. When setting up the key, a unique pair (a private and a public key) is created:

    • On the local device (where you logged in to the browser).
    • On an external secure key carrier (token).
    • On another device.
  2. The information about the user's public key is transferred to the web server. It's linked to their username and saved.

  3. During an authentication attempt, the linked username and public key are used to authenticate the user.

Touch ID, Face ID, Android Fingerprint, the device's lock password, or PIN of an external secure media are used to protect and access the user's private key on the device.

Supported types of keys

The login methods available depend on the platform:

  • Mobile devices: Cloud keys (Face or Touch ID for iOS, Android Fingerprint for Android).
  • PC: Cloud keys (scanning a QR code with an Apple or Google device), keys on the current device (for example, with a fingerprint scanner), or keys on an external authenticator (USB, NFC, or Bluetooth device).
