The action takes place in the Zone, an alternative version of the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. After the accident, laboratories were set up in the Exclusion Zone, which allowed scientists to experiment with psychic abilities. Their experiments led to a second disaster, which caused physical and meteorological phenomena throughout the Zone, as well as mutations of flora and fauna.
